ILLUSTRATED PATHS
VILANOVA I LA GELTRÚ (VNG) / 2019
IDENSITAT for BIBLIOLAB

CAMINS IL·LUSTRATS is a project that studies the concepts of borders and boundaries, and of nexes and connections, referring to geographical areas of the town of Vilanova i la Geltrú (Barcelona), and through various activities, memories or human interactions which exist, or which have taken place.
These activities will be: exploration (using maps, walking, investigating, asking questions, writing down, photographing), narration (choosing concepts, defining them, illustrating them -- with drawings or photographs-) and visualisation (crafting a collective Glossary, and presenting it as illustrated books, an exhibition and a public presentation).

The methodology consists of an exploration by means of itineraries through certain areas of the town; an exploration of subjects arising from the route, using materials from the XBMVNG (Libraries in Vilanova i La Geltru); the organisation of colloquia and presentations of guest participants and expert contributors dealing with the themes touched upon in the project, and the completion of a book (or illustrated glossary) with a series of words selected by students, as well as deciding upon a final form for public presentation. In this way, the activities of exploration, narration and visualisation will be developed by means of the scheduled activities.
The project will take place on the premises of the two libraries which form part of the XBMVNG, in secondary school, in the school of art’s classrooms, and in public space. The work process will place between March and May, the public presentation will take place between June and July.

Taking part in CAMINS IL·LUSTRATS will be Clara Nubiola (artist and illustrator), Alfred Castells and Vicenç Carbonell (historians and co-editors of the Carrers de Vilanova i la Geltrú collection), Bienve Moya (folklorist, writer and actor), Pulina Morcillo and Oriol Hurquera (teachers at the Manuel de Cabanyes Institute), Joan Nadal (lecturer at the Municipal School of Art and Design of VNG), Azucena López, Albert Gironès and Ramon Parramon (Idensitat). Other contributors and organisations may be incorporated as specific work topics are developed.
