Through limits and connexions on the territory
BARÓ DE VIVER NEIGHBORHOOD / 2019
Illustrated Glossary Baró de Viver is a collaborative project between IDENSITAT, Youth Dynamization Service of Baró de Viver, Intervention Service for Coexistence at the Public Space of Sant Andreu, and Escola L'Esperança of Baró de Viver. It is based on the urban exploration, developement of textual and visual content, and presentation of results.
The project is based on the construction of an illustrated glossary, from an exploration of spaces proposed by first year and third year ESO (secondary school) students, spaces with which they have a relationship based on experience. Activities were developed with the aim of selecting, travelling throughout and representing a variety of urban spaces which, due to their history, their place in the local public imagination, or their status as an urban landmark, have become places of customary use or of collective gathering, as well as places of danger or insecurity, or places which young people rarely go to; inviting places or forbidden places, spaces that connect, or spaces that isolate.
Methodology: Exploration (tour and observation of previously selected spaces), creation of a glossary (making reference to specific neighbourhood sites), manual configuration of graphic elements, creating images which associate words with spaces (using photography), and an assessment of the results, with a view to collect ideas for improving those spaces which have been analysed.
The theme of the glossary will be defined by the relationships between the idea of the limit or border and that of the nexus or connection, in relation to participating students’ home neighbourhood. The Illustrated Glossary will collect words that, apart from including their verbal definitions, will be associated with a series of graphic and visual elements such as drawings, photographs, symbols, or typefaces.
