TRANSVERSAL AESTHETICS | RE-SITUARSE
Territories, residencies and mediations
Fabra i Coats, Barcelona, 9th-10th October 2025
Re/situarse is an encounter which combines internal debate with various invited guest contributors, and a public segment with workshops and talks open to anyone interested in the themes and issues raised regarding situated and mediated residencies. On October 9th and 10th, the second phase of the event which began at the Centro Huarte last June, will be held at Fabra i Coats (in collaboration with La Fabra Centre d’Art de Barcelona, and Fabra i Coats Fàbrica de Creació).
Transversal Aesthetics is a programme of artistic research and experimentation residencies at the intersection of art, mediation, and social space. Has been promoted by Centro Huarte and Idensitat since 2017. In 2025, in its seventh edition, we have decided to set up meeting places for analysing, reflecting upon, and sharing methodologies regarding artistic programmes which include residencies in specific local contexts.
A working session, open to the public, will take place on October 9th, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., in the Sala d’actes (function room) at La Fabra Centre d’Art Contemporani in Barcelona. Led by the Larre collective, it features Sören Meschede, Nerea de Diego, Leire San Martín, Disbel Roque (Paisanaje), Marc Vives (GRAF), Marta Gracia, Betisa Ojanguren, Oskia Ugarte (Centro Huarte), Luca Rullo (Audiolab), Ramon Parramon, Irati Irulegi, and Roser Colomar (Idensitat). This open activity aims to share and connect ideas discussed at the initial meeting in Huarte with other ways of doing and other experiences, sharing questions, methodologies, and realities, as well as reflecting together upon where and how we , as professionals, carry out these practices in accordance with the local contexts.
On October 10th, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., an internal working session will delve deeper into the issues which affect us working with mediation and contextual artistic practices, and within the limited timeframe which forms a typical part of the residency experience. The outcome of this session may transform the future approach of Transversal Aesthetics, as well as contributing to the mutual enrichment of those involved in the meeting.

Among those questions which prompted this programme in Huarte and Barcelona are: Could mediation activities function as spaces for content production, interaction, or learning transfer? Could we uphold the concept of “location” as a space which connects a theme with a specific active surrounding social space? What do we mean by context-mediated residencies? Why are context-mediated residencies necessary? What kind of networks, connections, or exchanges are generated between artistic projects and the social agents involved? Is there excessive replication of strategies and methodologies? What have we learned that we can share? What do artistic residencies contribute to the local contexts? How might research, production, and transformation be combined in connection to a specific local context?
