iD Barrio
Creativitat social, acció col·lectiva i pràctiques artístiques

The seminar developed in Calaf the past 14 and 15 of November analyzed the capacity of urbanistic and social transformation of small and average cities through participation, social creativity and artistic practices. Several artists, experts in city transformation processes, and representatives of active projects in their local environments took part in the seminar.

iD Barri is based on the idea that art can be an innovative factor in the processes of transformation of the city, since it is capable of surfacing latent social creativity and developing it though collective actions.
Coinciding with the fact that Calaf is working to improve its historical district, Idensitat has been developing for ten years cultural and artistic projects that correlate with territory in its physical and social dimension, and its current project has been awarded with funding generated by the Llei de Barris.
(The Law of Districts, Llei de Barris,is a scheme promoted by Generalitat de Catalunya, that has for five years granted improvements for neighborhoods, urban areas and populations requiring from a special attention, in order to avoid its degradation and to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants)

This seminar related subjects based in the urbanistic and social transformation and the catalyst role of art and culture to generate creative actions of local character open to projections and external connections.

Reality and fiction about participation
Many want to speak or are speaking about participation, which is not always achieved and sometimes not welcomed when it happens. The participation entails assuming critical quality and self-criticism.
Are small and average cities ready to incorporate participation in different areas of decision? How is art related to processes of urban and social transformation? What role and function have processes of participation? How can social creativity be triggered in a particular environment? In what way can creative processes have an effect on a local environment? How can one become involved in the sphere of collective action? Is the transformation of the city open to projects? What relationship exists between cultural policies and territorial planning? Can local contexts be part of the global cultural speech?
These questions were treated both days of the seminar from the junction of several disciplines: art, architecture, social work and politics.
