On September 14, 15 and 16 2012, IDENSITAT participated in the HANGAR Open Day by exhibiting some of the mobile devices created in the collaborative workshops which the organisation runs. For the show, IDENSITAT also curated an installation by Los Angeles based collective The Institute of Placemaking: a multi-functional structure the artists built at the eme3 festival in June, used on this occasion as the bar for the event. The structure will remain in HANGAR for future events.
HANGAR is a centre for art research and production, offering support to artists. Hangar’s mission is to support the visual artists and creators during the different phases of their art production processes as well as to contribute to the best development of their projects. For doing so, Hangar facilitates them equipments, facilities, production assistance and a suitable context for experimentation and free knowledge transfer. The centre offers an array of services and a framework that allows for the research and development of art productions in their entirety, or partially. Hangar follows up on the results by including the projects in various networks and platforms, or by detecting possibilities for their incorporation within other fields. More info: www.hangar.org
The Institute of Placemaking is a knowledge exchange center and public institution that gives spatial possibilities to people who desire a place for new ideas and new encounters within the city. The Institute is not permanent. It is nomadic and changing. It opens, closes, travels, hides and grows. It is always improvising and improving. The Institute is forever under construction The Institute is not about autonomous art or autonomous architecture. Instead, they want to contribute to the idea that a place is more than the sum of its buildings, and that architecture is a tool for giving form and potential to these shared spaces. But we are not deterministic: they want to design a space of possibilities. They provide the ingredients, you can make the meal. More info:the-institute-of.com
