Radio CIutat Vella was founded in 1989 as a means of giving the Raval district the opportunity to denounce the situation under which one of the most emblematic districts in Barcelona was then being subjected at one of the most emblematic moments in the city's recent history, when it was also known by the deprecatory name of Barri Xino, (Chinatown).
Theopeningof the station also signalled the creation of the first workshop-school of radio in this area of the city. Little by little, the station's audience and its programming largely produced by a team of volunteers, grew insize.
Since its beginning, Radio CIutat Vella has been an independent station run by AAVV Raval
